What the card is
This is a 2020 Topps Transcendent Derek Jeter Yankees Cap Relic Autograph, numbered 1/2, and listed as sealed. A cap relic paired with an autograph, in a print run of two, from Topps' most exclusive baseball product.
Why Topps Transcendent matters
Transcendent is the most expensive product Topps makes for baseball. From its 2016 debut through the 2022 edition it was sold as a wooden display case, priced in the tens of thousands of dollars, with only a few dozen units produced each year, and every case included an invitation to a Topps-hosted collector event. Cards from that era of Transcendent are some of the scarcest modern baseball cards.
Why Jeter matters to collectors
Derek Jeter spent his entire 20-season career with the New York Yankees. He won 1996 AL Rookie of the Year and five World Series championships (1996, 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2009), served as the team's captain, and finished with 3,465 hits, sixth on the all-time list. In 2020 he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on his first ballot, named on 396 of 397 ballots.
The 2020 card year matches his Hall of Fame election, which adds to its appeal. As the face of the most famous franchise in American sports, Jeter is one of the most collected players of the modern era.
