What Is a Logoman Card? The NBA's Ultimate Patch

What is a Logoman card? Learn the history of NBA Logoman patch cards, why they top record sales, key examples, and what to check before buying one.

Ask high-end basketball collectors to name their grail, and many will say "the Logoman." Logoman cards account for most of the highest basketball card sales on record, including the $12.932 million Jordan/Kobe card that holds the auction record. This guide explains what a Logoman card is, where the format came from, why it commands such prices, and what to check before you bid on one.

What Is a Logoman Card?

A Logoman card is a trading card with a jersey patch that shows the complete NBA logo, the silhouette of Jerry West dribbling. Sotheby's, writing with Fanatics Collect, describes them as "exceedingly rare trading cards that feature a jersey patch with the full NBA logo" and notes that they are "often autographed."

Because every jersey carries only one NBA logo, game-worn Logoman cards are scarce by nature. Sotheby's notes that game-worn Logomans "rarely exceed ten prints and are very often serialized to five or less," and many are 1-of-1.

Common Logoman formats

  • Single Logoman (with or without autograph): one player, one logo patch.
  • Rookie Patch Auto (RPA) Logoman: the Logoman version of a rookie patch auto, such as Luka Doncic's 2018-19 National Treasures card.
  • Dual and triple Logomans: two or three players on one card, each with a logo patch. These include the most expensive basketball cards ever sold.

A Short History of the Logoman

Timeline of Logoman milestones from 2002-03 Upper Deck NBA Logo Mania through the 2025 $12.932M Jordan/Kobe sale and Topps' 2025-26 Gold Logoman patches Figure: Major Logoman milestones, from the first Logo Mania cards to eight-figure sales.

According to Sotheby's:

  • 2002-03 Upper Deck NBA Logo Mania introduced the format with three players: Michael Jordan in his final season, Kobe Bryant and Jay Williams.
  • 2003-04 Ultimate Collection offered Logoman autographs of LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwyane Wade, Jordan, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Kobe. The first Exquisite Collection that year had a three-card dual Logoman checklist: LeBron/Jordan, LeBron/Kobe and Kobe/Jordan.
  • 2004-05 Exquisite added autographed dual Logomans and triple Logomans.
  • Panini carried the format forward after it took the NBA license. Examples include Luka's 2018-19 National Treasures RPA Logoman, the Warriors triple Logoman from 2020-21 Flawless, and a 2022-23 Flawless triple Logoman of LeBron, Giannis and Kevin Durant.
  • When Topps became the NBA's exclusive licensee in 2025-26, it added a new level. NBA.com reported that the 2024-25 award winners, including MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, would wear Gold Logoman patches, and some of those patches would become trading cards.

Why Logoman Cards Sell for So Much

1. Built-in scarcity

There is one NBA logo per jersey, so the supply is capped by how many jerseys reach the card maker.

2. Instant recognition

Sotheby's points to a consistent design language. When collectors see the logo, they know right away what kind of card it is.

3. Strong checklists

Logoman checklists usually feature stars and top rookies. Sotheby's notes that even a Logoman of a draft bust, Anthony Bennett's 2013-14 National Treasures autograph, has sold for about $2,700.

4. A long record of results

The top of the market keeps confirming the format:

"Player-Worn" vs "Not Associated With Any Player"

This may be the most important detail for buyers. Not every Logoman holds a patch from a game-worn jersey. Yahoo Sports/cllct reported that Wembanyama's $528,000 National Treasures Logoman has no autograph and carries this disclaimer on the back: "The enclosed officially licensed material is not associated with any specific player, game, or event." The Luka card that sold for $4.6 million, by contrast, was autographed and contained "player-worn material."

Takeaway: read the card back. Game-worn or player-worn language, an on-card autograph and a strong player can be worth millions of dollars more than an unsigned card with generic material.

What Moves a Logoman's Price

Two Logomans can differ in value by a factor of 100 or more. Recent sales point to five main factors.

  • The player or players. A Jordan, Kobe or LeBron pairing sits in its own tier. The three Exquisite dual Logomans featuring those names have sold for $6.5 million to $12.9 million.
  • Autograph or no autograph. Wembanyama's unsigned National Treasures Logoman brought $528,000. Signed rookie Logomans of Luka and Giannis brought several times that.
  • Rookie-year status. A rookie-season Logoman is usually the top card of a player's first year, which is why RPA Logomans from National Treasures and Flawless lead their players' markets.
  • Material description. Game-worn or player-worn material carries a premium over generic licensed material.
  • Timing and buyers. The Luka National Treasures Logoman sold for a reported $4.6 million in 2021 and $3.12 million in 2022. In 2025–2026, a small group of buyers pushed several Logomans to new highs. Even 1/1s follow the wider market.

How to Buy a Logoman Card Safely

  1. Confirm the serial number and checklist. Check that the card appears on the official checklist with the right numbering.
  2. Check authentication and grading. Look for a PSA, BGS or SGC slab with an autograph grade where relevant, and verify the cert online.
  3. Read the back. Note whether the material is described as game-worn, player-worn or not associated with any player.
  4. Look up its sales history. Big 1/1s often have public records. Luka's National Treasures Logoman went from a reported $4.6 million privately to $3.12 million at auction.
  5. Beware of patch tampering. Fake and swapped patches exist. Our fake slab and alteration guide covers the warning signs.
